My first clay sculpture, the theme being nature. I got inspiration from the 'Family of three' a sculpture in the school compound, outside the general office. The main idea is that of the harmony between man and nature. The brown 'trunks' in the middle represents us, mankind, while the leaves surrounding it represents nature. The vines wraps itself around the 'trunks', a symbol of acceptance and harmony. If you look closely at fig 2 and 3, the brown 'trunks' forms vaguely the shape of a heart, another suggestion of harmony and co-existence.

Flower pot

Had some extra time and clay after the previous assignment (in the next post) so I made another pot. The base is done up in coils, while the petals in slabs of clay. I had some trouble with the petals as they rather heavy and almost broke off due it's weight (physics in action >.<) Anyways, I took out bits of clay from the overweight petals and they managed to stay on. I used rather light glaze to color the pot so that it looks natural. This reminds me of a rafflesia, so keep a fair distance away from it...

Mushroom pot

I did this in sec2 (I think...) I remember struggling with the coils as they always turn out to become flat coils. I did not intend to make a mushroom shaped pot, but my coils were placed a little off (ok, maybe quite a bit...) and the base sort of curved inwards. This reminded me of the stem of a butter mushroom, so I adapted it to look like one. I was supposed to glaze it, but there wasn't enough time in class to do so. I couldn't stand the incompleted 'ness of the pot, so I used acrylic to paint on the golden brown, red, white and yellow. Yup, some times art can turn out quite different from the initial thought...but that's not necessary a bad thing:)
