crochet cat:D

Completed these in mid-December...
took me about 14 nights to complete (with occasional breaks between)
but the pink one only took 7 nights. I suppose practice makes perfect:D
It was rather tedious and time consuming, but addictive all the same cos the cat 'grows' as you crochet.

Half-done cat...arms? legs?

all done, time to stuff and stitch it up:)

A new born ~sound asleep~

ATTENTION

it's bored being alone...shall make another one...

HI~ I'm complete:)

yay~ Love's in the air <3

Cheeky pencil cases

Made these in November 2011, but didn't have the time to upload them, until now...

They're really simple to make (with the sewing machine), but the eyes are hand-sewn (blanket-stitched) as I attached as an after thought. Originally wanted a plain, one-color case, but they looked a little dull, so added eyes (drawn on white cloth with fabric crayons) while the zips served as mouths:D

The first one (green) took me the whole afternoon as I messed up the sequence of attaching the pieces of cloth. But the subsequent few took me about 15minutes to complete:)

Gave one to my friend (to replace her seriously old pencil case) and another to Shiyun for christmas:)
The blue one 's still with me...maybe I should use it next year...

Play dough Beads

Had extra play dough after making the key chains (see earlier post) so decided to make beads for a simple bracelet. The read beads are most successful (I think) probably because red stand out more from the white.

These are really really small donuts for ear rings (as compared to my palm). It was challenging getting the details onto the tiny beads

Book Binding

Wanted to make the teachers something different this year, something useful...thought for many weeks, scanned through google search...before deciding on book binding.

It was a rather difficult and tedious work as it was my first attempt at book binding, PLUS I didn't have the right materials: used a big safety pin to poke holes in the paper, cross stitching thread and needle, used wrapping paper, construction paper and cardboard to make the cover, etc. etc. In other words, I had to make do with whatever I had. I also referred to several book binding tutorials online before I was confident enough to go about making the actual books.

My first try was a failure, with pages not in line, strings tangled...
Below is my second (more successful) attempt:

pouch (from old shirts)

wanted to throw away two old shirts initially, until I thought of making them into this pouch...
I admit that it isn't perfect (made quite a few mistakes here and there~), but it's usable :) and white and peach goes well together :D

By the way, I've also made a dress (took me a 1.5m x 1.5m cloth + 2 days to complete) for grad night, but I'll be uploading the pics after, cos it's a bit weird to zi pai...

Key Chains :D

Felt really bored with my IH notes, so I grabbed some dough and made these key chains. Yup, I was feeling rather hungry then... cake, tart, waffle and macaroons (Mmmm...)
They are really quite small (compared to my finger, refer to last pic), so it was difficult to create the details. Putting the various part together and making sure that they stick is the hardest, some parts fell out and I had to attach them back together with PVA glue.

Wire sculpting

chanced across this metal wire sculpture of an escalator while googling for inspiration over the December holidays. At first sight, I thought it was a rough sketch of the escalator, but upon closer look, it's actually made of a bundle of metal wires, creatively and skillfully bent to that shape. This artwork is a wire sculpture of an escalator by Fritz Panzer. Indeed a very meticulous and amazing piece, to be able to create the frame of an escalator solely from wires.

I was reminded of the wire bookmarks that some bookstores sell, and was inspired to make some myself. And so I did...

I bought the metal wire at value dollar and formed these simple shapes of the flower, heart, leaf, fish, butterfly and star. It was really simple to make. But I suppose the thing with wires is that once it is bent, it will be hard to bend it back to make it straight again. In other words, the shape of the wires are permanent once it is formed. Therefore it is important to picture the product before starting on the project.

Making bookmarks are simple and great as simple gifts to friends. However, it can be a real trouble if the sculpture is done on a large scale, and due to the permanent nature of the wire, I believe that I would not be making a sculpture entirely of wires. Making bookmarks is one thing, doing coursework is another.

More stars (bracelet)

Bought a pack of buttons (cos they looked cute :3) but had no idea what to do with them. So I string them up with wire and made this bracelet. Indeed, simplicity is the key (勤慎端朴).

pink star (necklace)

Pink star-shaped felt enclosed within an entanglement of wires. I saw a similar design worn by some random person on the MRT train. But I couldn't find any shops selling such necklaces so I made one myself :D. It's a rather simple necklace. I wore it to Shanghai during GCP. Sadly, there's a downside to this --- it's rather fragile, cos I used the wrong type of wire, so I have to be careful not to flatten it. Other than that, it's great:)

Water drop (necklace)

Made this about 2 years ago with wire and a bead. Turned out rather well, and I wore it several times to weddings, parties and even vistings during Chinese New Year. It's simple, so it goes well with almost any clothing :)

Wind chime

made this out of a pinch pot, wire, a piece of card and acrylic paint. It hangs by the window in my room. Though it isn't loud, it does ring quite softly. I suppose clay and wire doesn't really make a good wind chime. But who cares, as long as it looks like one, it's fine. The second photo came out pretty well too. The angle at which the photo is taken from reveals the basketball court which balances the wind chime in the photograph. I also like the reflection from the window as well as the contrast of the focused wind chime and blurred background.

Knitted bag

spent quite some time (~2 weeks) to complete this bag. 6 balls of yarn, 2 knitting needles. It was very tedious, repeating the same thing over and over again. But you'll see the bag grow (literary) in front of you, and that sense of accomplishment is great:) so I couldn't stop and once, I stayed up till 12 midnight to complete a few rows. It's really handy when going shopping and attending tuition classes.

luv it^^

clay beads :)

for Ms Olivia Chee

for Mrs Tan Wee San
Made some beads with clay and arcylic paint. They were Teacher's Day gifts. I thought I'll make something different this year rather than cards. Initially, I wanted to make ear rings, so I made two of them. But I didn't have the hooks, and I wasn't sure Ms Chee and Mrs Tan had ear holes, so I made necklaces instead. (and kept the other one for myself :P) They were really quite small (compared to my fingers) so I had a quite some trouble trying to paint them, esp. the eyes. I guess they turned out quite ok :D

If you see Ms Chee walk by, you may just notice a tiny mushroom dangling at her neck:)
